Preparing for Japan

Some tips to make your visit to Japan easier
Cash & Cards

The Yen (Â¥) is used and cash is readily accepted as are credit cards. Recently most taxi's have accepted cards. Cash for foreigners is often challenging but 7-11 stores generally always have ATM's that work

Language

Whilst English is not often spoken most signs on public transport are in English and many stores have English signs. With a little prompting many younger people will try to communicate in English. Nothing a smile and Google Translate won't fix.

Weather

Being a very large country with varied terrain weather is dependent on the region and season. Japan generally follows the northern hemisphere seasons with warm & humid summers and cold winters often with snow in the cities.

Getting Around

Japan is generally easy to get around including public transport, planes and also car rentals. Driving is safe and only requirement is an international drivers licence when renting. For public transport download the SUICA app which allows tap-n-go in most places.
