Jama Masjid - 1500 years of history

Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in India, stands proudly in the heart of Old Delhi. Built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan between 1644 and 1656, it represents the grandeur of Mughal architecture with its red sandstone and white marble design. The mosque’s vast courtyard can accommodate thousands of worshippers, and its towering minarets offer stunning panoramic views of the bustling city below. As both a place of devotion and a historic landmark, Jama Masjid captures the spiritual and cultural essence of Delhi, inviting visitors to experience its timeless beauty and vibrant surroundings.

About One Hour Tourist

I’ve been fortunate to travel extensively and often much of this has been work related where time has been limited. I learnt quickly to find ways to squeeze in an hour here and there to make sure I always got to see something new.

Life’s too short and there is so much to see so don’t be one the folks sitting in the lounge at the hotel or airport.

When to Visit

Morning

Morning provides a perfect opportunity before the heat of the day. You need to find the tourist gate #3 and this can be accessed down a small lane to get in before 10am.

Evening

Evenings give an chance to see sunsets.
