About the Author

I’ve been fortunate to travel extensively and often much of this has been work related where time has been limited. I learnt quickly to find ways to squeeze in an hour here and there to make sure I always got to see something new.

Life’s too short and there is so much to see so don’t be one the folks sitting in the lounge at the hotel or airport.

Front row view into lively Hong Kong

Hong Kong trams offer a nostalgic and fun way to explore the city’s bustling streets. Their charming retro design, rattling along with the city’s pulse, provides scenic views of skyscrapers and local life. Riding a tram immerses you in Hong Kong’s unique urban energy and historical charm

My Recommendations

  1. Upstairs and front row: Early morning is usually your best chance to secure the front row and get a spectacular view
  2. Ride old town: Take a ride from Central or WanChai out to Quarry Bay and pass through the more traditional parts of Hong Kong
  3. Late Night City Lights: After sunset Hong Kong changes vibe and riding the trams gives a totally different view .

Ride the front row

Riding the Hong Kong tram in the front seat upstairs offers a unique and scenic experience. As the tram glides through the bustling streets, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the city’s vibrant neighborhoods, historic buildings, and modern skyscrapers. The leisurely pace allows you to soak in the sights and sounds, making it an ideal way to explore Hong Kong’s rich urban tapestry while relishing a nostalgic mode of transportation.

Night-time insights

Taking the Hong Kong tram at night is a magical experience, offering a unique perspective of the city’s vibrant nightlife. As the tram glides through the illuminated streets, you’ll be treated to stunning views of neon signs, bustling markets, and dazzling skyscrapers. The gentle pace allows ample time to soak in the enchanting night lights, making it a memorable way to explore Hong Kong’s dynamic cityscape after dark while enjoying the nostalgic charm of the tram.

When to Visit

Morning

Early mornings are usually quiet and easy to get a seat – especially to front row up the top. It’s a good chance to take a longer ride as the traffic is less.

Evening

After dark the scenes change into neon lights and buzzing streets – make sure you grab a few happy snaps once you get off as the tram rattles of into the distance.
